FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP ‒ Three medical students at Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown ‒ including Nicholas Sciarretti of New Philadelphia ‒ will be competing in the Tuscazoar 75 ultramarathon at Camp Tuscazoar on Saturday to raise money for Parkinson's disease research.

The three ‒ Sciarretti, Matthew Bonfiglio of Akron and Alex Keith of Hartville ‒ were motivated by Dr. Sara Whittingham, a NEOMED faculty member who has Parkinson's. She continues to battle for her best quality of life by participating in marathons and triathlons to raise awareness and funding for research at NEOMED.

"We thought that this would be a pretty great opportunity to further Dr. Whittingham's efforts to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's research," Sciarretti said. "And it's another challenge for the three of us to take on outside of the classroom."

The course will be a 25-mile loop consisting of a single-track trail, old railroad beds and towpath trail at the camp near Zoarville.
