    Update, 4:15 p.m.:

Both lanes of northbound Highway 101 were once again open as of Friday afternoon, according to an X post by CHP Templeton.

    Original story:

Part of northbound Highway 101 through Paso Robles closed Friday morning after a semi-truck crash, according to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.

At about 3:10 a.m., the semi-truck crashed into a guard rail, multiple wooden posts and metal fencing on top of a concrete wall on northbound Highway 101 near South Spring Street, according to CHP Officer Joel Newby.

A fire also briefly broke out in the same area under the bridge, and 40 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled onto the roadway during the crash had to be cordoned off, according to the CHP’s traffic incident report page .

In a photo posted on X by the department, the semi truck was seen dangling over the side of a bridge, secured to a tow truck.

West Coast Towing responded to the incident.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation.

Northbound Highway 101 was expected to be closed north of the Spring Street offramp until about noon, the agency said.

The crash and closure was slowing traffic through the area. As of 9:20 a.m., traffic was reportedly backed up all the way to Main Street in Templeton, according to the Caltrans QuickMap page .
