For the first time ever, there is an FDA approved spinal implant that is revolutionizing back surgery! This groundbreaking procedure allows surgeons to clear out spinal nerve-impingements and relieve pain without the need for fusion.

As a patient who was fortunate enough to be the first to undergo this procedure after FDA approval, I can attest to its remarkable benefits. The surgery took place at Centura's St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, and the results have been nothing short of life-changing.

Back pain is an incredibly common ailment, with a staggering 80% of Americans experiencing it at some point in their lives, according to TheGoodBody.com. The majority of these occurrences happen between the ages of 40 and 64. The primary cause of back pain is pinched nerves, which can lead to chronic discomfort and limited mobility. Dr. Joshua Beckman, a neurosurgeon at Neurosurgery One, asserts that nearly all cases of back pain can be traced to impinged nerves. Consequently, his career has been dedicated to the task of relieving nerve pressure and restoring patients' quality of life.

In many cases, pain can be alleviated through decompression surgery, which involves removing arthritis or bulging disk material that is compressing nerves. However, there are instances where simple decompression is not enough to provide lasting relief. Traditionally, fusion was the only alternative for patients with severe arthritis, bulging disks, and slipping vertebrae. Fusion involved permanently joining together the affected segments of the spine to eliminate the painful motion. Unfortunately, fusion procedures often came with complications. They significantly limited mobility and had a high failure rate due to the excessive pressure on the adjacent disks, leading to a condition known as "Adjacent Disk Disease."

Fortunately, thanks to the FDA-approved TOPS device, patients now have a groundbreaking alternative to fusion. Dr. Beckman explains, "Now we can get rid of all that disease and stabilize the back with the TOPS device and without limiting movement."

I can personally attest to the effectiveness of this implant. After my initial decompression surgery provided only temporary relief, Dr. Beckman suggested that we explore the possibility of using the TOPS implant. He informed me that removing all the problematic sections of my back would result in severe instability, leaving fusion or the TOPS implant as the only viable options.

    I did not want fusion!

Together, we researched the TOPS implant and discovered that it was awaiting FDA approval in the United States. So, Dr. Beckman took the proactive step of getting trained on the device in anticipation of its approval.

In April 2023, the TOPS implant received FDA approval, and we scheduled my surgery at St. Anthony's Hospital for August 9th. The procedure was a resounding success, marking the first time this groundbreaking surgery was performed in Denver, Colorado. I am thrilled to report that I have experienced fantastic results. I am now completely free from pain, with no agitated nerves and no real awareness of my low back, which is a miracle in itself! This surgery has truly transformed my life, and I can only hope that it paves the way for many more individuals to benefit from this remarkable advancement in spinal treatment.
