A FUMING shopper has called out the retailer on social media for canceling their membership after an enrollment error.

The shopper said they much prefer Costco's competitor retailer, Sam's Club, which offers similar perks for less money.

"I absolutely hate Costco. I will forever be a Sam’s Club girl what company stops your auto enrollment," the consumer wrote in a Facebook post.

The shopper said Costco's customer service has been lacking, citing encounters with rude shoppers and a crowded shopping experience overall.

"The store is ALWAYS overly packed and the ppl who shop there act like they are entitled to just be as rude as can be while there," they added.

With concerns over membership fees, many consumers are deciding whether the Costco member benefits are still worth the price point.

    PRICE CHECK

In July, Costco announced that its membership fees will increase annually from $60 to $65, and the Executive Membership will go up from $120 to $130.

The membership price increase will occur in the US and Canada on September 1, CNBC reported.

Nearly 52 million members will be affected by the price update.

About half of these members are signed up for the executive plan.

Costco has raised its prices on average every five years.

Although a price increase was expected in 2017, the retailer maintained its rates until this year.

    RETAIL RAGE

Costco shoppers are also fed up with Costco's crackdown on card sharing and ID checks.

After a spike in organized crime, several big retailers implemented anti-theft policies to deter shoppers from stealing merchandise.

Shoppers said they're growing increasingly frustrated with the new measures which are ruining their in-store shopping experience.

    Costco vs. Sam's Club membership

Many retailers offer a tiered membership system with various perks:

    Costco Membership

    • Gold Star: The lower tier membership costs $60 annually. With the Gold Star membership, shoppers can purchase items online and in warehouses. With this tier, shoppers receive 2 membership cards and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
    • Executive: The higher tier membership costs $120 annually. With the Executive membership, shoppers get additional benefits such as an annual 2% reward and discounts on Costco services.

    Sam's Club Membership

Several Costco shoppers said they are considering switching to Sam's Club.

Sam's Club offers a similar tiered membership system where consumers can pick between two membership options with different perks.

Those who belong to the Club membership pay $50 annually. The Club membership offers instant savings, same-day delivery, and savings on fuel.

The higher tier costs $110 annually. With the Plus membership, members enjoy free shipping and free curbside pickup.

Members also get exclusive store hours and receive savings on pharmacy optical products or services.

As consumers continue to worry about inflated prices, many are reconsidering their expensive memberships.

Meanwhile, a Costco shopper criticized the retailer for allegedly taking his cart, but customers think his reaction is unreasonable.

And a Walmart shopper vowed to boycott the chain after being forced to scan $400 worth of groceries.
