The Olympic Village is a residential complex built or reassigned for the Summer Games in or near the host city to accommodate all of the athletes performing.
Ryan’s wife Kayla Lochte posted TikTok’s responding to fans’ questions about athletes and the Olympic Village.
A fan asked, “What do you mean you are not allowed to leave the Olympic Village, I see all kinds of Olympic athletes leaving the village.”
“Not USA swimmers,” Ryan could be heard saying in the background.
Kayla asked Ryan why and he responded by telling her that it was the rule for USA swimmers.
“USA has stricter rules than other countries, right?” Kayla questioned Ryan.
Ryan confirmed that other countries did have stricter rules but lamented the rules for USA swimmers were tough.
“But you can leave for certain things?” Kayla asked to which Ryan immediately shut down with a “No.”
The swimming legend said there are certain special occasions where swimmers can leave, but it’s on a case-by-case basis.
Ryan’s insight comes after he previously competed in the Olympics in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.
The swimming legend secured 12 medals (6 gold) while competing in the Summer Games.
He is considered as the second most decorated Olympic athlete behind his former teammate Michael Phelps.
Phelps secured 28 medals with 23 of them being a record gold while competing in the Summer Games in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.
Meanwhile, Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso was booted from the Olympics after she took a trip to Disneyland.

Her departure, which came after she spent a night out and failed to support her teammates, led to her early dismissal from the village, despite her original plan to stay until the end of the Olympics.
Luana’s departure was controversial because athletes are expected to remain focused and support their teammates, both crucial for maintaining team unity and morale.
Her absence during a key period was seen as a breach of this code, leading to her early dismissal.
The Paraguayan Olympic Committee said: “Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.
“We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”
