TEAM USA suffered a disaster of a performance in the 100-meter relay on Friday.

While the Americans were without superstar runner Noah Lyles , the squad showed little when it came to simply passing the baton to one another – and fans let them hear it on social media .

The Canadian team won the 4×100 final in a stunning victory, with South Africa and Great Britain taking silver and bronze medals, respectively.

And the U.S. team failed to medal in the event for the fifth straight Olympics.

Team USA was doomed after a fumbled baton handoff from Christian Coleman to Kenny Bednarek on their first pass.

The latter seemed to leave early, causing the mistake.

They finished seven and were disqualified due to the baton pass error.

The Americans were forced to compete without Lyles, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and revealed on Thursday that his Olympic run was over after his 200-meter bronze finish.

Fans shared their disgust over the U.S.’s efforts.

“These guys literally have one job and still can’t figure it out in 4 years once again. Blow it all up,” one commented.

“This is what you do when it matters?” another asked.

“I was very disappointed with the performance the men did in the 4x100m Relay,” a third stated.

Team USA was disqualified due to the fact they passed the baton outside the zone too late.

If Lyles participated in the event, he had a chance to win his third gold medal – joining the illustrious Usain Bolt , Carl Lewis, Bobby Morrow, and Jesse Owens as the only men’s sprinters who have achieved a sprint treble in a single Olympics.

It’s likely the 27-year-old would’ve run the third leg of the 4×100-meter race .

Two days after winning the closest 100 meters in Olympic history , Lyles shared he tested positive for COVID after his bronze finish on Tuesday.

“It is not the Olympics I dreamed of,” Lyles wrote on Instagram , “but it has left me with so much Joy in my heart.

“I hope everyone enjoyed the show.”

He could only watch Team USA’s failure of medaling on Friday.

“That’s a disaster,” said NBC broadcaster Ato Boldon after the replay showed the botched first handoff.

Coleman was part of a botched handoff a day earlier in the semifinals which almost ruined Team USA’s chances of competing on Friday.

Courtney Lindsey’s final 100-meter run helped the squad achieve the fastest time in the semifinals.
