I ditched my horrible £800 London box room to live in a van and it was the best decision I ever made

A MAN has revealed that he ditched his expensive London flat to live in a box room, and said it was the best decision he ever made.

Si had lived in the capital for six years when he decided that he was sick of paying £800 a month to live in a tiny room.

He was determined to live as cheaply as possible, so that he could get out of debt.

"I was paying an extortionate amount of rent and it was a dirty, horrible place", he said in a video posted to his YouTube channel @lifeofsi.

To cut back on his spending, Si decided to spend £7250 on a van.

He then rented a parking space in a church ground for £150, and made his home there.

When he first purchased the van, it had nothing inside it, but he put a mattress and then a pillow inside, and from there made it into a home.

After moving into the van, Si said that his monthly costs went from £1,000 a month, to £250 a month.

Si revealed that the van had no electricity or insulation, and he struggled through the winter, when temperatures sometimes dropped to -5 degrees.

"There was no heating or anything, I literally had candles for light", he said.

With all the money that Si saved on rent, he kitted out his van and it is now much bigger than the tiny box room he was living in before.

He added that he is happy that he no longer has to share a kitchen and a bathroom with five housemates like he did in his old apartment.

After 18 months of saving, he decided to quit his 9-5, and now travels the world in his van.

"It wasn't easy, but it was worth it", he said, whilst relaxing in the sun in Montenegro.

"I made a few sacrifices, and now I'm on top of the world."

Si's girlfriend also travels around with him in the van, and the pair make YouTube videos to inspire others to ditch the rat race and do the same.

"I want to help people to be free and happy and doing what they want in life", he said.

"So here's what I did to get out of the rat race, you can do the same."
