CHICAGO Bears fans weren’t happy seeing the condition of the Soldier Field turf ahead of new quarterback Caleb Williams’ home debut.

The Bears hosted the Cincinnati Bengals in their second game of the 2024 NFL preseason Saturday.

And the state of the field after last weekend’s Metallica concert didn’t look great.

Pictures showed the turf having visible seams and spots.

It sparked concern even within the Bears front office, Chicago Tribune reporter Brad Biggs said.

General manager Ryan Poles and assisting GM Ian Cunningham could be seen inspecting some of the spots on the field, per Biggs.

The quality of the turf left Chicago fans raging.

“Ah good I see the Soldier Field turf is in midseason form today and by midseason form I mean looking like s**t,” one posted on X.

“How can the Soldier Field turf be fine for soccer – and it was earlier this month – and abysmal for football? It happens every fall,” another wrote.

“Soldier Field looks horrible, get a dome so Chicago can host some Super Bowls…” a third added.

“Game 1 and the Soldier Field turf is already in peril,” one said.

The field appeared to have been re-sodded after the Metallica gig at Soldier Field, sports anchor Kaitlin Sharkey reported.

Williams sported his Bears jersey for the first time in last week’s 33-6 win over the Buffalo Bills .

The former University of Southern California standout completed four of his seven pass attempts for 95 yards.

One of them looked like the No. 1 pick making a Patrick Mahomes impression.

Williams tossed a spectacular shovel pass to running back D’Andre Swift.

Swift then ran for 42 yards, the longest play of the game.

The Bears quarterback later explained it wasn’t a no-look pass as it initially appeared to be, though.

“I did see [Swift]. It wasn’t a no-look,” he said.

“I wish I could claim it was, but it wasn’t…

“So I saw it open and I could feel the defenders breaking through the line, which they should on a screen.

“So [the] offensive line did a great job making it seem believable that they were gonna let up a sack.

“Then [I] tossed it over the [defender’s] head and we got around 40 yards or so, so it was great.”
