Griffin’s contract still had two years left to run, but ESPN has decided to move in a different direction.

Since joining the network, the former quarterback had worked on NFL Live and Monday Night Countdown.

While he also covered college football .

Speaking out for the first time since news of his ESPN exit broke, Griffin promised to reveal all in time.

“As I sit here with my family on this beautiful day, we are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from you guys over the last past 72+ hours,” he began on X.

“YOU GUYS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST.

“Your support means everything to us, and I can’t wait to connect with you all directly about everything.

“I’ll be sitting down soon to chat with YOU, so make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel, drop all your questions here and under my latest video and I’ll be answering them soon.

“We’re honored that you love the way we cover sports, tell stories, and celebrate life.

“As a family we try to inspire people to be their best everyday, but it’s YOU who inspire us to push even harder.

“Let’s keep this journey going together.”

The writing had appeared to be on the wall for Griffin back in April, when he was replaced on Countdown by Jason Kelce .

In addition to Griffin, ESPN also moved on from NFL Countdown host Sam Ponder.

He was hired by the network in 2021 amid strong rival interest from Fox.

In addition to his work on ESPN, Griffin has also been hosting his own podcast, entitled Outta Pocket with RGIII.

Last season, Griffin’s role with ESPN began to diminish.

He had been strongly considered for a new gig as their No. 2 college football analyst, but Greg McElroy was offered this position.

On Thursday, Griffin posted a cryptic tweet insinuating that people around him wanted him to fail.

“There are people in your circle saying they want you to win, but doing everything they can to make you lose,” he wrote.

“Don’t be afraid to cut people off when they keep handing you the scissors.”
