FORMER NFL star Shannon Sharpe has made his long-awaited First Take return – but suffered technical problems.

Sharpe , 56, was back on ESPN screens bright and early Monday after a long summer off.

He was welcomed back in style by First Take sparring partner Stephen A. Smith .

But just minutes into the show, he seemed to suffer from technical problems.

Sharpe appeared virtually with Smith and Molly Qerim in ESPN’s New York studio .

His return from a long summer break was marked by sparring partner Smith.

“In dedication to you Shannon, you don’t even have to talk,” Smith said.

“We wanted to welcome you back the way you deserve to be welcomed back.”

Smith then told producers to roll a montage of Sharpe’s best moments from his debut First Take year.

The former FS1 Undisputed star joined forces with Smith on First Take for the 2023 NFL season.

And his return to the show was confirmed earlier this summer.

Sharpe has had an extended break from screens, but last week host Qerim revealed his comeback date .

She also told fans there would be no more days off until Christmas as they gear up for NFL season.

“He’s not a rookie any more,” Smith said. “He had a good rookie year.”

Qerim added, “I’m going to predict no sophomore slump – just continuing to sky rocket.”

“My summer was great,” Sharpe told fans after his return.

    Shannon Sharpe's playing career

Shannon Sharpe was a three-time Super Bowl champion before his heavyweight media career.

The former tight end played in the NFL from 1990 until 2003 – mostly with the Denver Broncos.

He was part of the Super Bowl championship teams in 1998 and 1999 as well as the Baltimore Ravens’ title-winning team in 2001.

Sharpe was an eight-time Pro Bowler and voted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He finished with 10,060 career receiving yards from 815 receptions with 62 touchdowns.

The ex-NFL star has had just as strong a career on television screens since retiring.

“It’s unbelievable. Life is good, I’m excited to be back.

“I know you guys had a lot to talk about without me but I’ve got a lot to say today.”

Sharpe brought it with his takes on Monday’s show.

But he apparently couldn’t hear anything during an early segment of the program.

Sharpe was seen waving his hand toward someone off-camera and also taking out his headphone.

His technical issues didn’t last long – with Qerim and Smith expertly keeping the show rolling while things were fixed.
