DAYS of Our Lives has written two fan-favorite characters off the show after AnnaLynne McCord revived a beloved role.
After months of teasing AnnaLynne’s part on the soap, the 90210 alum made her first appearance on Days as Abigail DiMera last week.
Investigative journalist Abby (last played by actress Marci Miller) is the daughter of Jack and Jennifer Deveraux (played by Matthew Ashford and Cady McClain) and the wife of Chad DiMera (portrayed by Billy Flynn).
Her character was “presumed dead” after drug lord Clyde Weston (James Read) confessed to her murder in a 2022 episode.
By bringing Abby back from the dead, the show’s writers have also decided to end Cady and Matthew’s run on Days for the time being.
On Monday, August 19, Soap Opera Diges t reported that Jack and Jennifer’s characters will not be seen after Monday’s episode as Abby tries to reconcile her past and present.
Though Abby’s identity was officially confirmed by a DNA test last week, her character has suffered amnesia and doesn’t remember any of her loved ones – including husband Chad.
The outlet reported that Jack and Jennifer decide to return to Boston on Chad’s suggestion, as Abby’s memories continue to evade her.
Cady took over Jennifer’s role from Melissa Reeves, who played the part off and on from 1985 until 2022.
The actress reflected on her time on Days in an Instagram post on Sunday, August 18, writing, “I love that I got to play this part”.
Melissa is scheduled to reprise the role during upcoming episodes, Cady confirmed in the post.
Alongside a selfie taken on set, Cady’s caption read, “I love that I got to play this part and I love that Missy is going to get to play this part again, a part that she created so beautifully.
“I had a great time putting my take on it, and so appreciated her gracious support while I did so,” the 54-year-old actress wrote.
“I hope you enjoy the fun we had shooting the episode you’ll see on Monday, and stick around for all the fun episodes to come with the lovely Melissa. It’s a Jenniferpalooza!” she signed off.
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest , Billy dissected how different characters reacted to Abigail’s shocking return to Salem in an all-new avatar.
“It’s complicated,” he told the outlet. “It was originally written that Chad was going to be all-in – that he thought that it was Abigail and Jack was the skeptical one.

“That just never made sense to me, especially because of the connection [that Chad and Abigail] had,” Billy continued.
He explained, “So the way I played it was that Chad was all-in believing that it was her, but when he finally sees her, it’s not the person he was chasing.
“If it is Abigail, he’s not getting back the Abigail he went looking for. So that’s the mindset I went into it with.”
Meanwhile, Billy added, his on-screen father-in-law “Jack was skeptical leading up to [the DNA test] and then made the switch” to embracing Abby as his daughter.
‘NAOMI VIBES’
AnnaLynne previously teased her role on Days of Our Lives, after the actress shared a video from the set back in February.
In the clip posted on her Instagram Stories, AnnaLynne was seen walking down a hallway, while speaking into the camera.
“Not gonna lie, it’s giving Naomi vibes,” she said, referring to Naomi Clark, her character on The CW’s 90210 that turned the spotlight on AnnaLynne.
AnnaLynne played the role from 2008 until 2013 after she starred as Eden Lord on Nip/Tuck from 2007 to 2009.
