Mamta mysteriously vanished from her Manassas Park home in Virginia, around 30 miles outside of Washington D.C .

Her husband, Naresh Bhatt , was arrested this week and charged with prohibition against concealment of a dead body.

This felony charge is doled out to individuals accused of transporting, secreting, concealing or altering a dead body.

Just days before his arrest, Naresh spoke with local CBS affiliate WUSA9 in an eerie interview.

He appeared to show very little emotion throughout the recorded conversation, often responding with short answers.

At one point during the interview, Naresh claimed that he was suffering the most amid his wife’s disappearance .

“I’m the suffering one, I’m the suffer – my baby and then myself, you know, like, we are suffering the most,” he said.

He also took a moment to urge his wife to return home.

“If she is watching, come back, whatever is the issue, you know like we can fix it,” he told the outlet.

About one week later, Naresh was seen in handcuffs as he was taken from the couple’s home and placed in a police car.

    “INCONSISTENCIES”

On Friday in court , prosecutors accused Naresh of making “a number of inconsistent statements” regarding the whereabouts of his missing wife, according to the Washington Post .

Mamta has been missing since at least July 31, according to her family.

The next day, her co-workers at the medical center where she worked contacted police and requested a wellness check as she had missed two shifts.

When police arrived at the Manassas Park home on August 2, Naresh reportedly declined to report his wife missing.

Manassas Park mom Mamta Kafle Bhatt has been missing since July 31.

July 27 – Mamta was last seen at her job as a pediatric nurse at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center

July 28 – Mamta spoke to her friend

July 31 – Naresh last saw Mamta

August 2 – Mamta’s co-workers called a welfare check to her house. Police spoke to Naresh, who didn’t want to report her as missing

August 5 – Naresh officially reported Mamta as missing

August 21 – Police searched Mamta and Naresh’s home. Naresh is named as a person of interest as cops said he’s not cooperating with police

August 22 – Naresh was handcuffed and taken into police custody

August 23 – Naresh appeared in court

It wasn’t until August 5 that he filed the missing persons report.

It was then that Naresh claimed to investigators that his wife was visiting friends “either in Texas or New York,” the prosecutors said.

However, Naresh later told WUSA9 that the couple had dinner together the night he last saw her.

“She was the one who cooked and do the kitchen stuff,” he told the outlet, denying that any argument had occurred.

“We do not have any specific conversation. We do not have any argument or something like that.”

Prosecutors have also revealed that investigators found when they searched the home on Wednesday.

They claimed the Virginia home was found “in disarray,” with suitcases packed.

Blood spatter evidence was reportedly found in the master bedroom and bathroom.

Investigators are also reportedly looking for two out of three knives Naresh had purchased on July 30 – the last day Mamta’s family had heard from her.

Naresh is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

His attorney noted on Thursday that he has not confessed and argued there is insufficient evidence to prove his guilt.

He and Mamta share a one-year-old daughter who has since been placed into the care of social services, according to the Washington Post.

Mamta’s mother currently  lives in Nepal and is attempting to obtain an emergency visa to fly to the US and take her granddaughter into custody, her immigration lawyer Bandita Sharma Dhal has said.

“Right now her only intention is to come here, grab that baby, hold that baby tight,” the lawyer said.

“Request the U.S. embassy in Nepal to expedite [her visa] because that baby needs someone to take care of her.”
