GOOD Bones fans have begged HGTV to cancel the spin-off show after claiming that the season premiere was dreadful.

The HGTV reality series stars Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk, Mina’s half-brother Tad, his right-hand man Austin “Bobkat” Aynes, and Mina’s husband Steve.

Based in Indianapolis, Indiana , the original series followed mom Karen , 61, and daughter Mina, 37, as they flipped houses in the Circle City suburbs with their home rehab business, Two Chicks and a Hammer, Inc.

Karen and Mina had a falling out at the end of the original Good Bones series. The new, limited series sees the two women focusing on “new beginnings” while working on separate projects in different states.

The first episode focused primarily on Mina’s husband, Steve Hawk, which fans have called a “huge fail.”

In a Reddit post titled, “Good Bones. We waited for this premiere. The formula is gone,” a fan of the TV series broke down the season premiere and listed its many shortcomings.

The Redditor wrote, “Was looking forward to this show dropping, but no. This was so dreadful to watch.

“Basically the chemistry of the series is gone. I’m not sure what the hell the first episode was. We couldn’t finish it.”

“Having Steve center stage was a huge fail,” they continued, adding, “Steve has no hook, no stage presence.

The disgruntled fan compared Steve’s demeanor to someone who has undergone “a lobotomy,” explaining, “In the first few minutes, Mina playfully freaks out about a bug and his affect and tone doesn’t change.

“No laughter, no play, and doesn’t change his expression – Data from Star Trek was more emotive, and he was an android.”

They also complained that Steve is “clueless all the time, about everything, especially finances.”

“The episode drags on like it’s trying to fill the time,” the fan continued, adding, “As the episode goes on, Steve and his ‘yup’ and ‘yeah’ responses offer nothing of substance.

“Like why are you here, on a TV show that used to be our jam.”

The Redditor concluded, “We will be watching Karen’s episode, if only for closure – a favorite, always so present and engaging.

“So disappointing because we used to binge this show. It was a fave. This last gasp, no HGTV.”

We do not talk. We haven’t in a long time.”

    DULL, PATHETIC, & BORING

Other Good Bones viewers responded to the fan’s complaints in the post’s comment thread.

“I don’t even understand the point of continuing this show. At. All,” agreed one person.

“It’s awkward at best,” they continued, adding, “It’s like watching people who became famous for no apparent reason (other than being on TV), then for publicly airing their trailer park family drama, and now they’re trying to rebuild their image in this dull, pathetic, boring new format.”

A second fan commented on Steve, writing, “I know his eyes are open but he looks empty, cold, lifeless (just to name a few).  He has no TV personality not [sic] all!”

“I’m not trying to be mean but I don’t think Mina could date a guy with a strong personality. She is a steamroller,” reasoned another.

They continued, “He’s very good for HER. Very supportive. A bit of a follower. Passive. Emotional and compassionate. He balances her super-strong personality out well.”

    NEW SEASON

The new season will follow Mina and Karen “as their lives evolve past their time renovating homes in Indianapolis,” according to an HGTV press release.

The first episodes will follow Mina, who has purchased an Indiana lake house that requires serious work, as she transforms it into a getaway retreat for her young family and Karen as she risks “her retirement nest egg” turning a run-down Wilmington, North Carolina bungalow into her dream beach getaway.

Mina shares two children – son Jack, five, and daughter Charlie, three – with husband Steve Hawk.

Last year, the TV personality revealed on the podcast that tensions existed between herself and her family behind the scenes, admitting she wasn’t “in a great place” with her mom or her brother Tad Starsiak during the final season of Good Bones.

In October, Mina revealed that she and her mom don’t talk and “haven’t in a long time.”

Mina stated that since speaking about her and Karen’s mother-daughter relationship on the podcast, some people have judged her for “not forgiving and forgetting because it’s family, and blood is thicker than water.”

“Those people can think what they want, but it’s so complicated,” she added.
