A FUMING shopped has slammed the retailer for refusing to honor his father’s military discount.

The shopper said he left hundreds of dollars worth of items at The Home Depot and went to Lowe’s instead where they promptly accepted the discount.

“I’m not one to complain much, but today my favorite Home Depot lost my business for good,” he wrote in a Facebook post .

Steven Bommarito and his father went to Home Depot and loaded up their cart with about $600 of materials.

When the pair approached checkout , the father presented his Macomb County-issued veteran photo ID card, but the Home Depot employee refused to apply the discount.

“He dedicated part of his life to serving this country… And they refused to give him the discount stating that the ID was not acceptable,” Bommarito said. “So, we abandoned our cart and went to Lowe’s just two miles away.”

“Loaded up all of the same stuff, and made our way to check out. He presented the same card for their veteran discount. The cashier thanked him for his service and applied the discount,” he added.

The son urged others to boycott Home Depot in his public post.

The post has received attention from other shoppers who were appalled by the encounter.

“They have been horrible lately with that! Lowes gives no issues whenever we go in,” one Facebook user commented.

“Not cool. They won’t be getting our business anymore,” another said.

“That’s so sad. I’m glad Lowe’s recognized his service and gave you the discount,” echoed a third.

The retailer also mentioned some of their other initiatives that help veterans. The Home Depot offers free, online courses dedicated to supporting job seekers from the military community.

Using a guided course, veterans are able to find a role where their “commitment, strong leadership and decision-making skills” are valued.

Meanwhile The Home Depot has been under heat because it does not offer tap-to-pay at registers.

And The Home Depot disappointed shoppers when they asked for a traditional register and instead got taken through self-checkout .
