A FRUSTRATED Walmart shopper is calling out the retailer’s payment policies and demanding change after being stopped at the register.

Customers have been begging Walmart to accept Apple Pay or Google Pay in its stores, but the retailer has refused to give in to these demands.

One shopper expressed their anger on social media at the chain’s lack of tap-to-pay options.

“I need @Walmart to get Apple Pay or [something] because Walmart Pay failed me today over 15 minutes [at] the register & I’m getting ‘oops something went wrong’,” they wrote in a post on X.

The customer explained that her sister had to save her from this unfortunate incident.

“Good thing my sister left her card in my car,” she wrote.

And this shopper is not alone in her frustrations.

Many others question why Walmart has not introduced tap-to-pay in its stores.

“Walmart, y’all need to invest in Apple Pay,” a shopper wrote on X.

“I left a full cart of groceries at the checkout because of this. I never really go there anymore,” another customer declared .

“I’m in line and Walmart doesn’t have a tap to pay,” a further shopper complained.

“Google pay [or] Apple pay. It’s 2024.

“I had to leave my cart, go to my car to get my wallet,” they said .

The U.S. Sun has contacted Walmart for comment on this issue.

    WALMART’S STANCE

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon has previously explained why the chain does not support Apple Pay.

He wants customers to use Walmart’s proprietary app when paying in-store.

“We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time,” he said .

Why doesn't Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don't offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.

McMillion praised the app in an interview with Stratechery and said it had helped him locate an item without having to wander aimlessly around the store.

“I used it and I know our stores as well as just about anybody, but I couldn’t find Command Hooks the other day, and I used our app and it took me straight to Command Hooks, I was grateful,” he said.

But almost 10 years after Apple Pay was launched, shoppers seem to be growing tired of the chain’s reluctance to conform to a tap-to-pay system.

    WALMART WOES

This is not the only complaint shoppers have had about the retailer in recent times.

They criticized Walmart’s self-checkout system which they labeled inefficient.

While self-checkouts are meant to speed up checkout times and reduce waiting lines, some shoppers claim they have done the opposite.

“Self-checkouts need to be scrapped,” a customer said .

“Nobody wants them and they’re impersonal and not much quicker.

“I’ve never met anyone who prefers them and I’ve worked in a supermarket,” they added.

Walmart has also implemented a 15-item or less policy at some self-checkouts across the country.

And this policy has infuriated shoppers even more.

“Dear Walmart, if you’re going to go back to 15 items or more being rung with a physical cashier, please add more cashiers!” a shopper begged .

“We stood for 45 mins to buy 30 items! Trust me… I will be finding other ways to shop!!!” another customer declared.
