St. Louis Cardinals break long-standing MLB curse that has fans saying ‘there’s no way it’s been that long’

The St. Louis Cardinals have seen a lot of success in recent history, but there has been one hump they couldn’t get over.

Since 1964, the Cardinals have had five World Series titles, but one thing they don’t have is a win at Yankee Stadium – until now.

The Cardinals finally ended their 60-year drought of losing to the Yankees on the road on Saturday.

The Cards squeezed out a 6-5 win against the Yankees to finally conclude the streak of losses that spanned both Yankee Stadiums.

A three-run home run from Brendan Donovan and RBIs from Nolan Arenado and Ivan Herrera helped the Cardinals get the win over the Yankees.

New York shot themselves in the foot a bit too, as an error led to one unearned run, which turned out to be the deciding factor.

While the 60-year drought sounds crazy, there is another factor to it.

The last time the Cardinals beat the Yankees at Yankee Stadium was during the 1964 World Series, where MLB legend Bob Gibson helped the Cardinals win the title.

Outside of the playoffs, the Cardinals had never won a regular season game at Yankee Stadium in their entire history.

That means they broke a 121-year drought of wins in New York against the Yankees that began shortly after the team was founded in 1903, 20 years after the Cardinals (originally the St. Louis Brown Stockings) in 1882.

MLB fans were left completely stunned after hearing about the record-breaking win for the Cardinals and shared their thoughts on social media.

“The drought is over,” one fan said.

“There’s no way it’s been that long,” another fan said.

“This is wild,” a third fan said.

“Honestly wild that we’re seeing these kind of streaks fall,” a fourth fan said.

While the Cardinals broke the long-standing record, it’s been one of the few things to go right for them this year.

The Yankees, on the other hand, are on the top of Major League Baseball right now.

They lead the American League with a 79-57 record.

Aaron Judge is also lighting the league on fire, and is on pace to break the home run record that he set in 2022.
