Passengers hoping to visit Turks & Caicos, Aruba, and Curacao were told that they would be staying much closer to the U.S. coast, CBS affiliate Inside Edition reported.
The cruise boat traveled from Port Canaveral, Florida, to The Bahamas, stopping at Nassau, Princess Cays, Freeport, and Half Moon Cay.
Passengers were only given this news about the itinerary change on the day the boat was due to depart.
A video from inside the cruise ship showed just how upset passengers were about this announcement.
People could be heard chanting “give us our money.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, the way you’re going about this with the noise and chaos isn’t going to solve any issues,” one cruise ship employee said.
But people were furious that their long-awaited holiday had been disrupted at such short notice.
“I spent $6,000 just to get here,” one individual cried in the video.
Passengers who decided to cancel their trip were offered a full refund and those who decided to stay on board were given a $400 voucher to use on the ship.
“They knew about the problem prior to us getting onto the ship,” passenger Ashley Ball claimed.
“They just didn’t say that until we were already on the ship, and, you know, went through customs and the lines and securities.”
According to Carnival, the ship had an issue with the engine, meaning it could not travel at full speed.
“Our engineers have been working to address an issue that is limiting Carnival Vista’s cruising speed,” a statement from the cruise line said.
“We apologize for this unanticipated disruption to your vacation plans and are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the cruise we had planned.”
Vacation nightmares
There have been some truly horrible holidays...
A family claimed it contracted parasitic worms after staying at a five-star resort in the Caribbean.
Passengers on a flight at 35,000 feet were left fighting for breath after toxic fumes filled the cabin.
Two students became mysteriously ill at a bar and one was hospitalized after their dream Mexico vacation turned into a horror story.
A traveler’s dream vacation turned into a nightmare when harsh mudslides and floods almost killed them.
The U.S. Sun approached Carnival for comment on this incident.
