Prescott’s lucrative new contract is set to make him the highest-paid player in NFL history .

With the saga having rumbled on all summer , the Cowboys finally committed to paying their QB ahead of their game against the Cleveland Browns.

Prescott’s new deal sees him become the first NFL player to reach the $60million per year mark.

His deal eclipses those of Joe Burrow , Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence , who will each earn $55million this season.

It includes a guaranteed $231million, taking it ahead of DeShaun Watson’s $230million fully-guaranteed contract.

With speculation having mounted throughout the offseason, the Cowboys have now extended both Prescott and CeeDee Lamb .

Last month, Lamb signed a four-year, $136million extension.

Earlier this week, Cowboys president Jerry Jones was quizzed over both Prescott and Lamb during a special edition of The Stephen A. Smith Show.

What he is as a person and as a quarterback will age well,” Jones said of Prescott.

“I think it will age well as he moves into the next five or ten years of his life. I think he’s the kind of quarterback that gets better and better.

“We have the challenge of not only recouping what we have spent on him over the last four years, we’ve gotta add that to what we’re gonna be paying him for the future .

“That’s not Dak’s problem on the end that it’s the Dallas Cowboys’ problem, because that money is not going to be there to spend on supporting cast.

“So we gotta ask ourselves, can we have the kind of success that Dak deserves, we deserve, his teammates deserve, our fans deserve?

“Can we do that and get in the range to afford Dak? I think we can.”

Asked what “took so long” over Lamb’s extension , meanwhile, Jones, 81, claimed that the organization always remained calm over the situation.

“There was never any question about how we felt CeeDee Lamb was as a football player or what he could do to help out this team,” Jones said.

“I don’t see any rewards or penalties on your timer on ‘does he get on the field or is he on the field when he better be out there.’

“I had no urgency at all about getting him to the field.”

The Cowboys suffered playoff heartache last season, losing to the Green Bay Packers on Wild Card Weekend.

They will begin their 2024 NFL season later today, when they face the Cleveland Browns .

The game is set to be shown across the United States on Fox, and will mark Tom Brady ‘s debut as the network’s new lead analyst.
