Kimray steps down as interim Wake Forest chamber president

The interim president of the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce stepped down Wednesday afternoon as the chamber continues to search for someone to lead the organization.

Joe Kimray, who is a longtime chamber member and owner of B&W Hardware on White Street, had served in the position since mid-May when he took over for outgoing president Liz Simpers.

“My full-time focus needs to return to being a husband, a father, and a small business owner. It has been an honor to serve you in this capacity – and I wish nothing but the best for our Chamber for which I have worked so hard for all of these years,” Kimray said.

Kimray’s decision to depart his interim role means the chamber is, at present, without a clear, public-facing leader. It also leaves the question of who will head up the organization going forward open ended.

“While we are saddened to see him leave this position, we fully support his decision and are deeply grateful for the immense contributions he has made during his tenure. His leadership has been invaluable, and his dedication to the Chamber is something we all greatly appreciate,” Erica Pittman the chair of the chamber’s board of directors, said.

Pittman said the chamber’s focus remains on finding a suitable replacement for Kimray, and, hopefully, one that will be up to the task of leading the chamber on a permanent basis.

“We are now focused on ensuring a smooth transition and will keep you informed as we move forward,” she said.
