Down to Business: Signature Art Bar Studio oozes creativity

Signature Art Bar Studio is a breeding ground for creativity.
Jamesia Tann, known in her studio as “Miss Tann,” and her partner, John Atkinson, are opening the photography and painting studio at 3332 Airport Blvd. NW to teach others and lead in creativity. The business’ slogan, “where art and photography meets,” encapsulates Signature Art Bar Studio’s mission.
“It’s a creative space where art and photography collide,” Tann said. “Whether you’re looking for a photo op station for a special occasion or a guided painting session to relieve stress, the art bar is a fun atmosphere to explore your artistic side.”
Tann said she was created to create. As a graphic designer, painter and photographer for more than a decade, Tann said she wanted to bring something new to the community.
“Wilson doesn’t have anything like this, not to my knowledge,” Tann said. “I started with Wilson Wine and Design. That was years ago, but that didn’t last. Our studio offers step-by-step classes, social art parties, team-building corporate events and more. We want to help you create your next masterpiece.”
Tann’s studio required a full overhaul when she moved in.
“I had a vision for the space,” Tann said. “I knew I could paint canvases. I didn’t know I could paint walls and floors. I’m just thinking of new ideas. This place is just like a blank canvas. It’s a perfect size for the studio building I had in mind. It’s very visible. Airport Boulevard’s heavily traveled.”
Moving from outdated sconces and bland walls to colorful designs and a ceiling that shines, Tann transformed her studio into the perfect spot for photo shoots or an open-studio painting session.
Tann hosts open studio Fridays and Saturdays where people can come in, pick a canvas, pick a design and paint with light guidance. She is also available for private parties and events as well as photo shoots.
“It’s a lot of work,” Atkinson said. “I’ve been learning how to do lots of stuff. The work you have to put into it is the most difficult part. You’ve got to make sure you’re dotting every I and crossing every T. You’re not just working 40 hours. It’s 80, 90 hours just to make sure you see a profit out of it. We really put a lot of work into it. I’m excited to see how everybody likes it.”
Signature Art Bar Studio’s grand opening is Thursday to Sunday. Tann said her tentative hours are 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2-6 p.m. on Sunday. Hours may be affected by private events. To book private events, go online to signatureartbar.com .
