Work will begin Monday to resurface 14 railroad crossings in Wilson County, according to CSX.

The city of Wilson said on its city website that CSX will have a surfacing team and a tie team conducting the work.

The crossings in the Wilson area that are part of the improvements include the following:

    • Wilco Boulevard, surfacing team closing around Aug. 27, tie team closing around Sept. 10

    • Barnes Street, surfacing team leaving open, tie team closing around Sept. 12

    • Nash Street, surfacing team closing around Aug. 28, tie team closing around Sept. 12

    • Green Street, surfacing team time leaving open, tie team closing around Sept. 12

    • Vance Street, surfacing team time leaving open, tie team closing around Sept. 12

The crossings in the Elm City area are as follows:

    • Wilson Street, surfacing team closing around Aug. 29, tie team closing around Sept. 19

    • Main Street, surfacing team closing around Aug. 29, tie team closing around Sept. 19

    • Nash Street, surfacing team closing around Aug. 29, tie team closing around Sept. 19

    • North Street, surfacing team closing around Aug. 29, tie team closing around Sept. 19

According to the statement from the city of Wilson, the listed crossings will be closed two times because the crossings have double tracks.

These will be total closures, which means that no traffic will be permitted to cross the tracks until the work is complete at each crossing.

Closures are expected to last three to five days.

CSX said that for crossings that are one way in and one way out with residents behind them, the railroad company will attempt to complete the work in 12 hours.

In some cases, traffic will have to be rerouted, with signs directing motorists to detours.

CSX said that weather or unforeseen conditions could affect the schedule. CSX asks motorists to avoid the affected crossings if possible.
