Community members are being invited to participate in the first open house to discuss the revitalization and redesign of Airport Heights Park.

The Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club is hosting the event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the North Bend Senior Center.

This community meeting will be an opportunity for citizens to meet the Groundworkshop consulting firm and Rotary Parks Committee teams, and to help guide the park’s future.

Those who come to the open house can hear about the history of the park and how the design will be developed.

Event organizers are also encouraging everyone to share their thoughts and memories of their favorite parks, and help create a vision for the future of what Airport Heights Park might become through this unique process.

The park is located in the Airport Heights area of North Bend and is owned by the Coos County Airport District. In 2022, the airport district signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club to revitalize the park that has served the community for more than 60 years.

The park currently houses a playground, baseball field, sand volleyball court, basketball court, and tennis court.

The Rotary is working with a park consulting firm, Groundworkshop out of Portland, to develop a master plan to guide revitalization and redevelopment of the park for the next several years.
