(Alabama)- By now, Alabamians can agree that Olympic champion Simone Biles has captured significant attention with her remarkable achievements at the 2024 Olympics, boosting her already widespread popularity both offline and online. While Biles has thrived in the spotlight, someone from her past has also gained attention after speaking with the Daily Mail.
Shanon Biles Speaks
Shanon Biles (52), Simone's biological mother recently sat down with the media outlet to express guilt for putting Simone and her sister in the foster care system when they were younger due to her alcohol and substance abuse. Eventually, Simone and her sister were adopted by her grandfather and his wife. Shanon said "It was hard to give up my kids, but I had to do what I had to do. I wasn't able to care for them. I was still using and [my father] didn't want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn't right."

There was a time when Shanon resented her father. In the immediate aftermath of Simone and Adria's adoption she felt that he had betrayed her and cut off all contact between her and her children.
Now that Shanon is clean, she wants Simone to reach out to her so she can apologize for her past lifestyle and for placing Simone and her sister into foster care. She also wishes for forgiveness from Simone. Shanon said " Don't judge me on my past. Let's move forward."
Shanon said she also missed Simone's wedding, due to Simone not inviting to the ceremony.
Simone in Okay and Happy With the Outcome
Hello Beautiful reported Simone said in her documentary series that she believes being separated from her biological mother and placed into foster care helped shape her for a better route in life. Eventually, Simone and her sister were adopted by her grandfather and his wife.
“I feel like I wouldn’t be where I am unless that turning point happened. I would still be Simone Biles, probably not Simone Biles that everybody else knows, the world knows. But I also believe everything happens for a reason and I’m forever grateful for that because I definitely got a second shot at life," the gold medalist added.
