After over three decades of marriage, Linda Mathis, the wife of television judge Greg Mathis, has reportedly filed for divorce. The couple, known for their strong partnership both on and off the screen, has been married for 39 years, making this development a significant and unexpected turn in their lives with some Alabamians paying close attention to the divorce.

    A Long-Standing Union

Judge Greg Mathis, best known for his long-running television show "Judge Mathis," where he dispenses justice with a mix of sternness and empathy, has often spoken fondly of his wife, Linda. The couple has been seen as a pillar of strength, navigating the ups and downs of public life together. They have four children, who have also been part of their public journey.

In 2022, the couple and their children starred in the family's reality TV show, "Mathis Family Matters" to give a rare glimpse of the judge's life outside the courtroom, according to Ebony Magazine. During the interview, the couple said the entire family gave input on being on TV.

It was a tough decision for my family to do a reality tv show, and it did take some convincing from my son Amir – who is the Executive Producer and brains behind Mathis Family Matters. We all know how harsh public opinion can be, but we really felt this was a unique opportunity to show a black family in a positive light. Our family is not perfect by any means, but we are family that has a lot of fun together and are all very passionate about our careers and giving back. We also stick together, support each other and work through life challenges together when things get tough. (Judge Mathis and Linda Mathis)

Earlier this year in March, Judge Mathis created a post to Linda, in dedication to Women's Month and said, today, in celebration of Women’s Month, we shone a spotlight on, and applaud, my wife - Linda Mathis."

Just 11 weeks ago, Judge Mathis and Linda were pictured together after leaving an all-star concert event in Detroit and according to the Judge, "Linda and I had a great time watching our city shine."

On Mathis' Instagram, the couple have multiple date night and event images, seemingly enjoying one another. All within recent weeks.

    Financial Implications

As a prominent judge, Mathis has an estimated annual income of around $5 million. Given his significant earnings, the financial aspects of the divorce could be substantial. Linda Mathis is reportedly seeking alimony, and given the length of their marriage and Greg Mathis' income, the alimony payments could be significant.

AOL News reported she stated "irreconcilable differences" as the reason and wants to waive her requirement for spousal support.

    Potential Alimony Payments

In cases involving high-income earners like Judge Mathis, alimony payments are typically calculated based on various factors, including the length of the marriage, the standard of living during the marriage, and the financial needs of the spouse seeking support. Given these considerations, Judge Mathis could be required to pay Linda Mathis a considerable amount in alimony, potentially amounting to several tens of thousands of dollars per month, depending on the court's ruling.

According to Legal Calculators, if Linda has a gross income of $1 million and Judge Mathis earns $5 million, she could expect an estimated monthly alimony payment of $58,048.65. Now, if Linda's income rises to $2 million, the payment would decrease to $38,385.35 per month.

On the other hand, if Linda's annual income drops below the million-dollar mark to around $500,000, her monthly maintenance payment could increase to $68,368.68. If her income further declines to $250,000 annually, she might receive $74,361.46 each month. Finally, if Linda earns nothing at all, she could potentially receive $81,977.62 per month in maintenance payments.

    Moving Forward

While the divorce proceedings are likely to be closely watched, both Greg and Linda Mathis have maintained a relatively low profile regarding the specifics of their separation. Alabama fans of the judge and his family will undoubtedly be interested in how this situation unfolds and the impact it may have on the well-known television personality.

As the divorce process moves forward, it remains to be seen how the couple will navigate this significant change in their lives, especially after so many years of shared history.
