Gardner-Webb University announces Dean’s List recipients
BOILING SPRINGS — Benjamin Simpson of Yadkinville was named to the Gardner-Webb University Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester. Benjamin is a senior majoring in criminal justice with a double minor in homeland security and human services. The Dean’s List is composed of undergraduate college students enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours must earn a 3.70 to a 3.99 Gardner-Webb University semester grade point average, with no grade below a “C”. The National Dean’s List was established in 1978, as a way to recognize excellent academic achievement by college students. The University commends Simpson for this significant scholastic achievement in higher education.
Brittney Moreland named to SNHU President's List
MANCHESTER, NH — Brittney Moreland of Jonesville has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Winter 2024 President’s List. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer. WCC announces spring 2024 Semester President’s and Dean’s Lists
WILKESBORO — Wilkes Community College recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of students through the President’s List and the Dean’s List each fall and spring semester. Wilkes Heritage Museum plans Candlelight Ghost Tours
The Wilkes Heritage Museum will host Candlelight Ghost Tours in Historic Downtown Wilkesboro on Saturday, June 15. Ghost tours are 90 minute walking tours that begin at 7:30 pm. These guided tours cost $15 per person. Reservations for Ghost Tours are required and have a limit of 15 people total per tour. Yadkin budget hearing planned for Thursday
Yadkin County Manager Lisa Hughes will review the 2025 fiscal year budget at a special called meeting on Thursday. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners Chambers of the Human Services Building, located at 217 East Willow St., Yadkinville. There are no proposed changes to the county tax rate in the 2025 budget. Beginning at 7:25 there will be a public hearing on the Economic Development Funds Appropriation in the proposed 2025 Budget, followed by a public hearing on the proposed budget. The board is expected to vote on the budget following the public hearing.
Jonesville man shares history of local park
Brave men and women stepped forward to protect their freedom and taxation and many gave their lives during the Revolutionary War. One such place and people was the Adams family. They moved to the banks of the Yadkin River in what is now Jonesville in the early 1700s. DOBSON — Three of Surry Community College’s graduating students were recognized for their efforts and achievements. The students were presented with their awards by Dr. David Shockley, President of SCC, at a college Board of Trustees meeting. 2024 NC Trails Days a success
The fifth annual NC Trail Days festival was a success, organizers said, though they hope to continue improving the event each year. The festival is a celebration of nature in the Yadkin Valley with multiple guided hikes and other special events hosted in Elkin, Jonesville, and Stone Mountain. Whooping cough on the rise
The Yadkin County Health and Human Services agency has issued guidance around vaccines and health precautions due to an increase in Pertussis cases in the region. The North Carolina Division of Public Health has reported an increase in Pertussis cases in the Western part of the state. Since March 1, 109 cases have been identified throughout the state with additional cases under investigation. In the year 2023, only 103 pertussis cases were reported statewide. Approximately 65% of cases have occurred in individuals that are up to date with their age-appropriate pertussis-containing vaccine. ...
