Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney released a statement endorsing Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, quickly following in his daughter Liz’s footsteps.

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” the 83-year-old wrote in the statement. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution,” he went on. “That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Liz Cheney , herself a former GOP Congresswoman, told an audience at the Texas Tribune Festival earlier in the day of her father’s plans for the 2024 ballot box: “Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” she announced , before dropping her mic into her lap.

She had also endorsed Harris, and has said she was “impressed” by the Democratic National Convention and hearing Harris’ story.

Cheney did not reserve her ire for Trump alone, also throwing Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the mix for pointed criticism. “In Texas, you guys do have a tremendous, serious candidate running for the United States Senate,” she said. “It’s not Ted Cruz.”

Cheney slammed Cruz for leading “the efforts, on the Senate side, to attempt to throw out [2020 presidential election] votes.”

She then went on to endorse his opponent, Rep. Colin Allred.

When asked whether she would serve in a Harris-Walz administration, Cheney did not say no, but instead replied, “I am not focused on that, I am very much focused on—we have to defeat Donald Trump.”

Harris had previously said in an interview that she would appoint a Republican to her administration, but did not clarify who she had in mind.
