It’s time to upgrade your summer drinks from flimsy plastic cups filled with blended fruit syrup and bottom-shelf booze. True tiki cocktails are made with quality spirits (mainly all kinds of rum) and real fruit juices. Plus, they are expertly garnished, making them as fun to look at as they are to drink. My favorite tiki drink to make at home is the Jungle Bird because it’s perfectly balanced (read: not too sweet) and simple to make with just five ingredients.

The Bourbon Revival is a dressed-up whiskey highball cocktail featuring lemon juice, creme de cassis, honey syrup, a dash of Angostura bitters, and a mint and lemon garnish. A riff on the Bourbon Renewal cocktail from Portland, Oregon's now-closed Clyde Common bar, the Bourbon Revival is a simple and refreshing highball. This drink was developed by Jason Stevens, partner at Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden, in Austin, Texas.

If you’re anything like us, you don’t just randomly pick a name on a cocktail menu and order the drink without taking at least a little peek at the ingredients to see if it contains flavors you’d enjoy. If you do this, you’ve probably run into a few mysterious ingredients along the way. While there are countless names on this list, one confusing ingredient that seems to pop up often is grenadine. Maybe you even know what this ingredient tastes like, but there’s a decent chance you don’t know what it is.

What exactly is grenadine?

As we swelter through the dog days of summer, what you want is a drink which has a bit of a sharp bite to it while still being fruity and sippable. Enter of one my all-time favorite drinks, the Jasmine. This lesser-known cocktail is a citrus lovers delight, and is somewhat similar to the beloved Pegu Club but with a sharper, more bitter edge.
