The incident started on July 2, when an MCSO K-9 unit responded to 5555 Merwood Court regarding a search warrant for 35-year-old Robert Lynn Dees Jr., according to a news release.

When detectives arrived at the property, thought to have multiple armed occupants and suspects, they reportedly saw a man start to flee the property.

Deputies asked the man, identified as Dees, to stop, but he reportedly “refused to comply” and ran into the woods, the release said.

Officials released K-9 Hunter, who caught Dees when he ran, the release said.

However, Dees allegedly refused to comply with deputies and “kicked K-9 Hunter in the head, causing injury to his left eye.”

MCSO deputies eventually gained control of Dees, who received treatment on the scene for a minor injury to his leg. They took him to Metro Jail on charges of attempting to elude, harming a police animal, and resisting arrest.

K-9 Hunter was taken to Ark Animal Clinic for his injuries and is set to be monitored to ensure that there is no damage to his eye, the release said.
