Thief River Falls - Harvey Delage, 90, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, with his loving family by his side. Harvey Jerome Delage was born July 16, 1933 to Willie and Nora (Trudeau) Delage in Red Lake County. He attended elementary school in Brooks, and high school in Plummer. Harvey left school early to help run the family farm after his dad had an injury. Harvey entered the Army in January of 1953 and was honorably discharged in January of 1956. He started work on the Soo Line Railroad in 1956 as a switchman and brakeman and traveled the rails. Harvey retired after 31 years in 1987. However, he was just as busy after retirement working with Falls Radiator, running the wrecker, and doing multiple side jobs out of his garage. Harvey was united in marriage to Rose Sorenson on September 20, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brooks. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls where they raised their three children Mark, Bonnie, and Wayne. Harvey had many interests and was sure to have a smile on his face no matter what he was doing. He loved to dance, and you could find Harvey and Rose at the Eagles every Saturday night for a dance. Camping at Vagabond Village in Park Rapids with the Delage clan was a highlight for everyone. He loved hunting and spending time at the hunting shack with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing at Springsteel. He was an animal lover and couldn’t pass up bringing home unusual pets for the family, including fox, raccoons, and ferrets. He was an avid reader and could go through several books in a week. Harvey also spent many Sundays ushering at St. Bernard’s Church. Harvey is survived by his wife, Rose of Thief River Falls; children, Mark (Cally) Delage of Thief River Falls, Bonnie (Dave) Upham of East Grand Forks; grandchildren, Jacob (Samantha) Upham of Fargo, ND, Paige (David) Wischer of Fargo, ND, Ellie Delage of Grand Forks, ND, and Ava Delage of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Duane Delage and Richard (Karen) Delage; sisters, Yvonne Kush, Madonna (Bob) Polta, Mary (Gene) Christianson, Lucille (Bob) Weiss, Paulette (Larry) Johnson, and Diane Westlake; sisters-in-law, Shirley Delage, Joanne Bradley, Bernice Klenk, Laura Pederson, and Carol (Kory) Chervestad; many nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne; brothers, Robert Delage and Sheldon Delage; brothers-in-law, Dan Kush, Lewis Westlake, Frances Bradley, Duane Pederson, Laverne Klenk, Marlyn Johnson, and Elmer Hanson; sister-in-law, Deloris Delage and Doris Hanson; several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston and the Hospice staff for their wonderful care and kindness. Visitation will be from 12–1:30 p.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793, and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.
