WORCESTER – At least four Worcester Police Department officers were instructed by legal counsel to not answer questions under oath about instructions from supervisors about alleged unlawful physical contact with suspected sex workers, known as, “cop touch.”
According to an opinion by Worcester Federal District Court Judge Margaret Guzman, issued Oct. 20, 2023, in at least four depositions related to a civil rights lawsuit brough by Sylvester Agyeah, officers were asked about the alleged practice of “cop touch.” In one example provided in Guzman’s opinion, a detective was asked “if targets of prostitution stings had asked him to touch them to demonstrate that he was not an undercover officer.“ The detective answered that, “they’ll ask that,” but that he doesn’t “touch them, and usually I can just sort of dance around it and get to the point of, you know, making the sex-for-a-fee deal or not.”
