    CT man with active warrant tracked by police dog; found hiding behind washing machine

    A Thompson man with an active arrest warrant was found by police after he allegedly broke into a house and hid behind a washing machine, state police said .

    Christopher Sargent, 36, faces several charges, including on an outstanding warrant out of Putnam.

    Troopers with Troop D out of Danielson said they were called to an address on Brandy Hill Road in Thompson around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday for a man wandering through several backyards. It was additionally reported the man had run from neighbors in the area and possibly entered a home through a basement window.

    Troopers said they used their K9 “Boss” to track Sargent, conducted a building search and police allege he was found hiding in a small room and behind a washing machine in the basement of a home. Police gave verbal commands and he came out with his hands up. Police also allege that Sargent had cocaine on him when they searched him.

    Sargent is charged with third-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance. police said. Further, Sargent had an active arrest warrant from a separate incident with several charges, including first-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.

    State police said he was released from custody on a $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Danielson Superior Court on July 18.
