Veterans retreat expands near Thompson Falls
On a peaceful mountain retreat in Thompson Falls, close to 100 people gathered recently to celebrate the acquisition of a new 60-acre facility for a veterans group called, Patrol Base Abbate Return to Base.Located on Tanager Road, this off-grid mountain base above the Clark Fork River exists as a place for veterans from all branches to rest, reconnect with other fellow military personnel, and rediscover the meaning of service to themselves, families and communities. Practice makes perfect for Sanders County 4-Hers
Tuesday night was an evening for members of local 4-H groups to perfect their showmanship for the upcoming goat and sheep competition during this year’s Sanders County Fair.Sanders County 4-H project leaders Juli Thurston and Raelyn Cox were on hand to teach the showmanship class. This is the first year goats were included in the showmanship class. Two Sanders County 4-H clubs, South Side Sparks and Thompson Falls Mountaineers, had members attending the training. Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. And the latest measuring stick of time going by is now history as the 2024 Sander County Yard Sale came to a relatively rain-free conclusion this past weekend. Approximately 83 yellow Yard Sale signs were stuck in the ground throughout the county, with Thompson Falls having the most Valley Press sponsored event signs posted with 40.
