Woman rescued after kayak overturns in Stones River
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Swiftwater Team saved a woman from the Stone River on Wednesday after her kayak overturned, leaving her stranded for hours. According to the Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Team, fast-moving water in the river caused the kayak to overturn near the Cason Lane Trailhead on Wednesday afternoon. The woman reportedly grabbed a tree and managed to hold on with one arm for more than an hour while holding the overturned kayak with the other arm.

One person injured in North Nashville house fire
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - One person is recovering at the hospital after a house caught fire in North Nashville on Thursday morning. According to the Nashville Fire Department, crews responded to 1730 DB Todd Jr. Blvd. just before 9 a.m. and arrived to find smoke coming from one of the rooms of the house.
Nashville and Middle Tennessee Under Heat Advisory, Cities Open Cooling Centers Amid Rising Temperatures
The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a heat advisory, effective until 7 PM CDT this evening, as Middle Tennessee braces for another day of scorching temperatures. According to National Weather Service, "Very little relief through remainder of morning hours with heat index values up to 109 expected during afternoon hours today." All areas of Middle Tennessee, except for the Cumberland Plateau Region, are expected to feel the brunt of this heatwave.

NCT Hires Interim Leadership After Departure of Ernie Nolan
Nashville Children’s Theatre (NCT), the country’s oldest youth-centered professional theatre, is under new leadership. Executive Artistic Director Ernie Nolan is stepping down after seven and a half years with the organization to pursue a new opportunity with the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. His final day will be Sept. 7, which is opening day for the 2024-25 season.
