MPSC to gather public input on UP energy issues at Tuesday hearing at NMU
MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Public Service Commission is holding a public hearing in Marquette Tuesday regarding a study of energy issues in the Upper Peninsula. MPSC Chair Dan Scripps says in many ways, the region is further along in the energy transition than the rest of Michigan. When the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette closed, the Upper Michigan Energy Resources Corporation employed reciprocating internal combustion engines. That aims to help in the transition away from coal-fired energy.

A warm and humid airmass will be parked over Michigan for most of the week, leading to temperatures in the 80s and dew points near 70 degrees. As is typical for late July and early August here in Michigan, hot temperatures and high humidity will make for uncomfortable conditions for most of the work week. Winds will be out of the south-southwest, drawing in the heat and moisture from the Gulf. Showers and thunderstorms are possible most days in the afternoon and evening, further adding to the high humidity. Relief looks to arrive over the weekend.

Special Events Parking Fees: XInsurance Great Lakes Grand Prix
The Michigan City Parks & Recreation Department announces that there will be a special events parking fee on Sunday, August 4, 2024 for the XInsurance Great Lakes Grand Prix. Cars and motorcycles without a Washington Park parking sticker will be charged $40 to park.
