THREE RIVERS – Following a donation in excess of $2,000 earlier this year, Arby’s restaurant in Three Rivers has made another sizable donation to St. Joseph County Animal Control.

St. Joseph County Capt. TJ Baker said the fast-food eatery turned over a donation of more than $1,700 this month. A check-presentation ceremony was held Thursday at the restaurant.

Baker said the generosity of Three Rivers Arby’s is tough to put into words.

“I’m still not 100% sure why they chose Animal Control but, on behalf of Animal Control and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, I’d like to thank Arby’s in Three Rivers for looking out for our friends at Animal Control,” Baker said.

He explained that as the restaurant did prior to its first donation, which was made in March, Three Rivers Arby’s accepted cash donations and money from customers who opted to round-up the cost of their order to the nearest dollar.

Over the course of the latest campaign, the effort raised $1,710.95.

“It’s a real easy way to make a donation and it just goes to show how small contributions from a lot of generous people can really add up,” Baker said, noting the period for the latest fundraiser covered about six weeks.

Baker said the funds will be placed in an account designated strictly for Animal Control. The previous donation was added to the same account, he said.

Baker admitted he was thrilled to hear Three Rivers Arby’s has agreed to continue its fundraiser for St. Joseph County Animal Control. The latest campaign is expected to last through summer.

“Once again, Three Rivers Arby’s is making a difference,” he said. “It has demonstrated a commitment to helping a local cause and to showing compassion toward the animals we have here (at the Centreville agency).”
