    Lake Township Board Approves Key Ordinances and Expenditures at July Meeting

    Lake Township, MI - July 9, 2024The Lake Township Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., led by Supervisor Anthony Farhat. The meeting addressed several significant issues, ranging from financial decisions to ordinance updates and infrastructure improvements.

    Board Appointments and Financial Decisions

    The Board began by approving the appointment of Kimberly Chase and Charlene Sutherby to the Board of Review, filling alternate and full-time positions respectively. The appointments are effective from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, with terms renewing every two years.

    Treasurer Harry Trier provided the financial report, noting that the Fire Chief agreed to reinvest a CDAR for another four weeks. The Board also approved the payment of bills and payroll checks numbered 45620 to 45657, alongside other post-audit bills presented on the EFT check register.

    Major Equipment and Infrastructure Approvals

    In a move to improve the township's emergency services, the Board unanimously agreed to insure a new ladder truck valued at $500,000 for $4,593.00. Additionally, the Board approved the purchase of a new Vacker sign at a cost of $6,000, with the funds to be taken from the Roscommon County Foundation Grant.

    The Board also addressed infrastructure maintenance, approving a bid from Great Lakes Asphalt to seal coat the township hall parking lot for $3,199.47.

    Ordinance and Compensation Updates

    One of the meeting's highlights was the approval of Ordinance No. 56C, which amends the hours of operation for marihuana establishments. This ordinance was passed with a roll call vote, receiving unanimous support from the four Board members present.

    The Board also passed Resolution 2024-13, which sets training and inspection pay for election workers, ensuring they are adequately compensated for their roles in upcoming elections.

    Regarding township personnel, the Board approved a compensation plan for the Deputy Clerk, who will now receive pay for up to 40 hours per month at $14.00 an hour, with specific provisions for election preparation work in August and November.

    Cemetery and Public Comment

    Supervisor Farhat discussed ongoing improvements to the township cemetery, including potential upgrades to lot markers and related software. The Board decided to further investigate these options before making a final decision.

    The meeting concluded with a public comment session, allowing residents to voice their opinions and concerns. The session was followed by the adjournment of the meeting at 8:56 p.m.
