Lake Township, MI - July 15, 2024The Lake Township Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on July 15, 2024, at the Lake Township Hall in Caseville. With Supervisor Valerie McCallum absent, Trustee Jim Deming was appointed to chair the meeting following a motion by Trustee Clay Kelterborn, supported by Trustee Nicole Collins.

    Meeting Overview

The meeting, which started at 7:30 p.m., saw all items on the agenda approved as presented. The minutes from the June 17 regular meeting and the July 5 special meeting were also approved unanimously.

    Reports and Correspondence

Due to the Supervisor's absence, there was no report provided. The Treasurer’s report was submitted without discussion, and the Clerk informed the Board that the Public Accuracy Testing for the upcoming August 6 election would be conducted on July 30 at 2:30 p.m.

Correspondence included the receipt of minutes from the June 19 CAFPA meeting, while the Zoning Administrator and Building Inspector’s reports were noted as not submitted. The Board also received minutes from the Planning Commission’s June 12 regular meeting and the July 2 special meeting, along with a letter from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regarding water usage in Windsor Township.

    Old Business: Garage/Firewood Sale Ordinance

One of the key issues on the agenda was the discussion of a potential amendment to the township’s garage sale ordinance to include provisions for firewood sales. The Township Attorney had provided questions for the Board to consider, but due to the absence of full board attendance, the discussion was tabled until a future meeting. The motion to table was supported by all present members.

    Public Comments: ARPA Funding Inquiry

During the public comments section, resident Ken Kapa raised concerns about the use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for a land purchase intended for a new township hall. He questioned why this was not presented to the public earlier. Acting Chair Deming responded that the use of ARPA funds had been discussed at previous meetings and suggested that any omission from the minutes was unintentional. Another resident, Ann Krzeminski, corroborated Deming's statement, recalling that the matter had indeed been discussed previously.

    Adjournment

The meeting concluded quickly, with a motion to adjourn being passed at 7:45 p.m. The next meeting is expected to address the tabled ordinance discussion and other ongoing township matters.
