Persistent Showers to Affect Northwest Iowa, South Dakota, and Neighboring Areas

Residents in northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota, and neighboring regions are advised to prepare for a week of persistent showers and occasional thunderstorms. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls, the wet weather pattern that began today is expected to continue through the week, with varying intensity and localized heavy rainfall.

Ongoing Showers to Linger in the Area

Light showers that began early Monday morning are forecasted to continue throughout the day, particularly in areas east of I-29. Although the rain is expected to be light, its prolonged presence may result in minor inconveniences for daily activities.

    Thunderstorms Expected by Mid-Week

The NWS warns that from Tuesday night through Wednesday, the region will experience more showers accompanied by weak thunderstorms. While the risk of severe weather remains low, residents should be on the lookout for lightning and heavier pockets of rainfall. Northwestern Iowa is expected to bear the brunt of this mid-week weather, with higher rainfall totals anticipated.

Potential for Heavy Rain Later in the Week

As the week progresses, there will be periodic chances for more showers across the region. The most significant concern at this time is the potential for heavy rainfall over areas that have already been soaked by earlier storms. Although the specific track and strength of these later showers remain uncertain, the risk of localized flooding in already saturated areas could increase.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay informed of the latest weather updates and to take precautions as needed.
