    Thunderstorms Sweep Through Southwest Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southwest Michigan, warning residents of impending thunderstorms and dangerous beach conditions.

According to the NWS report released early Friday morning, multiple thunderstorms are expected to hit the region on Friday and continue through the weekend. While the storms are not forecasted to reach severe levels, some could bring intense periods of rain, strong winds, and potentially hazardous conditions.

The affected areas include Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, and surrounding counties. "Periods of thunderstorms are expected, a couple of which could be strong," the NWS reported. Residents are advised to stay vigilant, although spotter activation is not currently required.

    Dangerous Beach Conditions Expected Saturday

In addition to storm threats, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the Lake Michigan shoreline, including Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties, from 8 a.m. Saturday through the evening. The NWS warns of high wave action, strong currents, and dangerous swimming conditions that pose significant risks to beachgoers.

The advisory cautions against swimming and venturing out on piers, as waves could potentially sweep individuals into the water. "Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water, and high waves can sweep people off piers," the NWS emphasized in their Friday night update. Authorities urge residents and visitors to heed the warnings, avoid entering the water, and check for possible beach closures.

Looking Ahead: Thunderstorms to Continue Through the Weekend

Residents can expect the unsettled weather to continue through Sunday, with thunderstorms projected to persist. While the storms are not anticipated to reach severe levels, the frequent rain could still cause disruptions throughout the weekend. Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts and exercise caution during this period of heightened weather activity.

In the meantime, the NWS reminds everyone to remain informed and take precautions to stay safe as the weather unfolds.
