Showers and Thunderstorms to Bring Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

BUFFALO, NY — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for western and central New York, indicating the potential for unsettled weather this weekend. Though no hazardous weather is expected on Friday, residents should be prepared for occasional showers and scattered thunderstorms crossing the region on both Saturday and Sunday.

The areas affected include Niagara, Erie, Monroe, Oswego, and surrounding counties. According to the NWS, some of these storms may bring isolated strong winds and heavy rainfall. The NWS has classified the weekend as having a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall.

Weekend Weather: Marginal Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

While the storms expected over the weekend are not anticipated to be widespread or particularly severe, the risk still exists for localized impacts. Isolated strong winds could cause minor damage, and heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

The NWS is urging residents to remain informed by monitoring weather updates throughout the weekend. Although widespread severe weather is not expected, conditions can change quickly, and isolated storms could still present risks to outdoor activities and travel.

Spotter Activation Not Required, But Caution Advised

At this time, spotter activation is not anticipated for the coming days. However, the NWS encourages everyone in the affected areas to be cautious during stormy periods and to report any significant weather phenomena, such as strong winds or flooding, to local authorities.

As western and central New York heads into a potentially stormy weekend, residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
