Residents should prepare for possible thunderstorms this afternoon, with the highest risk of severe weather in areas including Alpena, Otsego, Grand Traverse, and Roscommon counties. The primary threats associated with these storms are:

    • Damaging wind gusts that could cause tree and property damage.
    • Large hail, posing a risk to vehicles, roofs, and outdoor structures.

While the chance of severe storms is currently considered marginal, any storms that do develop could bring significant localized impacts.

To stay safe during severe weather:

    • Secure outdoor items that could be damaged or become hazardous in high winds.
    • Stay indoors and away from windows during thunderstorms.
    • Monitor local weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if a storm approaches.
