Ashville Days Set for Saturday
Ashville will hold their one-day Ashville Days on Saturday. The day will kick-off with a parade in Ashville at 10:00 a.m. Following the parade, visitors will be able to explore a craft show and vendor fair in the heart of the town at the Ashville Commons in addition to town-wide garage sales taking place during the day. Live music and family-friendly activities will be present throughout the day and Ashville Days will culminate with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at the Lower Lake Area Men’s Association (LLAMA) Club.
Push to Ban Smoking in Pa., Casinos Underway in Harrisburg
A push to ban smoking inside Pennsylvania casinos is underway in Harrisburg. Democrat State Representative Dan Frankel joined some Pittsburgh casino workers for a rally on the North Shore yesterday as they advocate in favor of an amendment to the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act to end tobacco use at their jobs. Frankel is a co-sponsor of the amendment, saying it is meant to close loopholes in the 2008 law. Rivers Casino currently has designated smoking and non-smoking sections on the gaming floor, while restaurants and some other areas are smoke-free.
St. James Italian Fest is July 20
St. James’ Italian Festival will take place Saturday, July 20. The festival, themed “Catholic Neighbors in Faith,” takes place at 27 Allen Street from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event will feature authentic Italian food, baked goods, Italian dancers, and musical entertainment. Admission and parking is free.

28th Annual Laurel Run/Walk Taking Place July 20
The event was created by Wayne and Elaine Hotelling in honor of their oldest daughter, who had Down syndrome. The run/walk will offer a variety of ways for people to participate – an 8-kilometer running race, a 5K running race, a 5K awareness walk, a 1K fun walk, children’s runs, and Laurel’s Legacy Lap (for anyone with a disability).
