A man who allegedly stabbed another man Sunday, July 7, at the Tigard Transit Center was arrested shortly after the incident.

Tigard police were initially called at 9:37 a.m. on a report of a disturbance involving a weapon at the center, located on Southwest Commercial Street.

“Officers learned two men had been fighting and one of them stabbed the other several times, then took off. Responding officers worked to control the victim’s bleeding, and the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries,” the Tigard Police Department said in a statement.

Talking with witnesses and TriMet officials, officers learned that the suspect, Diego Armando Gonzalez-Hernandez, 22, had taken another bus going to Sherwood, where he was later arrested.

He was lodged at the Washington County jail and is facing charges of first-degree assault (a Measure 11 crime), unlawful use of a weapon, harassment, interfering with making a report and an outstanding arrest warrant.

The victim, who police did not identify, is expected to survive.
