    Local roundup: Wyoming Seminary girls soccer opens with decisive win

    Ella Stambaugh and Mirabaai Reitsma each notched hat tricks as the Wyoming Seminary girls soccer team opened up the season in loud fashion, cruising to a 8-1 win over Old Forge on Friday.

    Stambaugh also assisted on three goals for the Blue Knights. Ellie Kersey and Clare Griffin had one goal and one assist apiece.

    Braelyn Reed had the lone goal for Old Forge.

    Nanticoke Area 6, Pittston Area 0

    The Trojans opened up the year with a shutout, rolling past Pittston Area for the win.

    Nevaeh Baran had a hat trick for Nanticoke Area, adding one assist as well. Natalee Atkins scored twice, and Lucy McGovern scored once.

    Anabele Viglone made 12 of Pittston Area’s 24 total saves in goal.

    BOYS SOCCER

    Lake-Lehman 3, Wyoming Valley West 0

    Greyson Dieffenbacher scored what proved to be the game-winner in the first half, then set up another goal in the second for the Black Knights.

    Logan Law and Hunter Palka also scored for Lake-Lehman. Andrew Chapple made four saves for the shutout.

    West Scranton 4, Wilkes-Barre Area 1

    Bryan Barbosa scored a hat trick to lead West Scranton to a win over the Wolfpack. Caleb Kane added the final goal for the Invaders in the win.

    Miguel Galeno scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre Area, with an assist from Robbie Miller. Joe Egidio made 11 saves for the Wolfpack.

    GIRLS TENNIS

    Wyoming Seminary 5, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

    The Blue Knights opened up their season in strong form, sweeping away Wilkes-Barre Area.

    Cecelia Pons, Jophie Li and Kathleen Minella each won in singles for Wyoming Seminary. Sem won all five matches in straight sets.

    Dallas 4, Pittston Area 1

    Cat Finn, Mahi Dhol and Juliana Konnick all won in straight sets for the Mountaineers in singles play.

    The Patriots got a hard-fought 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 win by Emily Hannon and Brooke Alberttelli at No. 1 doubles.

    GOLF

    Holy Redeemer 168, Nanticoke Area 224

    Arden Brunn and Jack Hurst tied for medalist honors with matching scores of 37 as Holy Redeemer picked up the win over Nanticoke Area.

    Max Bowen shot a 43, and Joey Lipinski addded a 49 for the Royals.

    Lucas Yendrzeiwski led the Trojans with a score of 51, while Ryan Vida added a 53.
