WYOMING — A man from Pittston accused of initiating a pursuit that began in Wyoming and ended in Pittston Township sought assistance from relatives of a law enforcement officer late Tuesday night.

Michael Jeremy Sokolowsky, 37, of North Main Street, failed to stop for Wyoming Area Regional Police for a traffic violation at Wyoming Avenue and East Eighth Street at about 8:30 p.m., according to court records.

Sokolowsky, operating a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle with a female passenger, sped across the Eighth Street Bridge into Jenkins Township while being pursued by the Wyoming Area Regional police officer, court records say.

Court records say Sokolowsky passed through red traffic signals and failed to obey stop signs in Jenkins Township and Pittston Township while being pursued.

When the officer lost sight of the motorcycle, the pursuit was terminated.

Police in court records say Sokolowsky hid the motorcycle on Suscon Road, Pittston Township, where he went to a house known to him and asked for a ride.

The residents of the house where Sokolowsky asked for a ride are relatives to a law enforcement officer they contacted, which led to Sokolowsky’s arrest.

Sokolowsky was arraigned by District Judge Donald Whittaker of Nanticoke on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment and seven traffic violations. Sokolowsky was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.
