If you have been looking for plans for National Thrift Store Day this Saturday, get your share of retail therapy at Home Start Thrift Boutique‘s pop-up event in Normal Heights.

On Saturday, August 17th, Home Start will be hosting a pop-up event in honor of the holiday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Shoppers can expect a 25 to 50 percent off the entire store, with music and decorations as part of the festivities.

With this discount, shoppers can begin the quest for new clothing, accessories, hand-poured candles, furniture, and household appliances just in time for the back-to-school season.

The thrill of a new favorite piece and a sustainable shopping trip aren’t the only things with a positive effect, either.

Home Start is a nonprofit that supports and employs mothers who have dealt with poverty, domestic violence, unsafe neighborhoods, lack of affordable housing, and unemployment. Through employment, the boutique helps these mothers develop job skills and gain work experience as they move toward greater independence.

Additionally, all profits from the boutique are directly reinvested into Home Start’s programs for families in need. Through their Maternity Housing Program, they provide affordable housing and life planning for women who are pregnant or have young children and find themselves in unstable living environments. And their Community Services for Families helps provide resources for child safety with families involved with Child Welfare Services.

Last year, Home Start served more than 22,000 San Diegans in need of services. To learn more about the nonprofit thrift store, visit www.home-start.org.
