The city of Wichita Falls has posted notice of a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate for Fiscal Year 2025.

The city is considering raising the property tax rate by the maximum allowed by state law without automatically sending it to a vote of residents.

The increase is to fund an increase in pay of 11 percent for Wichita Falls Police officers and an increase of 5 percent for all other city employees.

According to figures provided by the city, the present property tax rate expressed in cents is .680000 per $100 of value placed on a property. The proposed tax rate is .684800. The city says that rate would raise the taxes on a property valued at $100,000 by $4.80 per year if approved.

Mayor Tim Short and councilors Mike Battaglino, Jeff Browning, Larry Nelson, Michael Smith, Tom Taylor and Robert Whiteley have voted in favor of the tax increase.

The public hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 3 in the Seminar room of the MPEC, 100 Fifth St.
