The mother of Perry County Juvenile Court Judge LuAnn Cooperrider, has been the pantry's chief operating officer since 1990. The pantry was founded more than 200 years ago. Today, it serves about 27 local families each month with a variety of needed items.

On Aug. 25, the club unveiled a new sign honoring Julia's service to the Thornville community and presented her with a certificate.

A news release from the Lions Club stated Julia has worked tirelessly to improve operations and provide more and better service for those with food needs. The club supports the pantry year-round through programs such as the Feed the Freezer Campaign at the Perry County Fair and providing dozens of turkeys every Thanksgiving. In March, the Lions Club donated 57 grocery bags full of supplies to the pantry.
