Youth Pheasant Hunt: Join Vancouver Wildlife League & WDFW
Would-be pheasant hunters can hunt pheasants this month courtesy of the Vancouver Wildlife League and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Friday. From Saturday, Sep. 14 through Sunday, Sep. 15, the VWL and the WDFW’s hunter education program will host their annual youth pheasant hunt at two locations on WDFW’s Shillapoo Wildlife Area near Vancouver, according to the department.

Nursing Assistant Suspended for Child Rape: License Revoked
The Washington State Department of Health announced on Monday it suspended the license of Kitsap County certified nursing assistant Marquise King. From Dec. 6, 2022 to May 1, 2023, King had sexual relations with a minor patient in his care on multiple occasions and fathered a child with them, the DOH reports. King's roommate reportedly provided Snapchat screenshots confirming his relationship with the patient and their child, according to the ensuing DOH investigation.

Anglers hooked on fishing at Minter Creek will be limited to where they can cast a lure, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Monday. Per a new rule, the department reports, anglers will not be able to fish in exposed channels of the creek on tidal flats during low tides.

Linda Lashell Jordan of Grays Harbor, 56, had six dogs, including several she was fostering or putting up for sale, in her home when she was collecting benefits for PTSD from a workplace dog attack, according to an L&I investigation.

If you see and hear police with guns on the Olympia Capitol Campus this week, it's most likely a drill, Washington Department of Enterprise Services officials say. Law enforcement agencies will be holding emergency response training on the grounds from 4 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, Aug. 22.
Extra deer and elk tags available for multi-season hunters
Deer and elk hunters who bought a multi-season permit application this year could pick up an extra deer or elk tag, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reports. Starting today, the next 130 hunters on the original draw list will get to choose from one of 2,369 remaining multi-season deer tags and 130 multi-season elk tags, according to the WDFW. The original multi-season draw, the department reports, is being used to prevent people from flooding retail locations.

Invasive European Green Crabs Spotted near La Push
A foreign and destructive crab species has been captured in a new area off the Washington Coast, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reported on Monday. The European green crab, according to the WDFW, is a type of invasive shore crab threatening native shellfish, eelgrass, and salmon, among other local species. The species is found in shallow areas— typically less than 25 feet of water — including estuaries, mudflats, intertidal zones, and beaches, the department reports.
Extended Fuel Delivery Waiver Aids Wildfire Response
An emergency order issued by Gov. Jay Inslee has now been okayed by the federal government, the Governor's Office reported on Thursday. Per Emergency Proclamation 24-04, drivers delivering fuel to firefighters can work beyond normal hours until Aug. 16. As of Thursday, the U.S. Department of Transportation extended this emergency exemption through Sep. 15, the Governor's Office reports further.
Water Crews Working on 4th Ave E
The City of Olympia announced on Tuesday that planned utility work will close the left lane on 4th Ave E between Chestnut Street SE and Plum Street SE this month. Starting today, Olympia Drinking Water crews will be working on the aforementioned streets, the City reports.
Dangerous Building Demolition: Public Comments Welcome!

Since 2018, the General Administration Building has sat empty, DES reports. The six-story building is not up to code and poses human health hazards from lead to asbestos, according to the department.
