The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board wants Washingtonians to share their thoughts on selling cannabis waste.

The LCB opened the comment period on Wednesday concerning the enactment of Senate Bill 5376 from Sen. Derek Stanford, D-Bothell, which permits sales of non-hazardous cannabis waste to unlicensed businesses.

Advocates for the bill in the cannabis industry told state lawmakers earlier this year that SB 5376 will put excess organic waste, namely cannabis stems, to better use as compost for cultivators.

Before the passage of the new law, cannabis waste was required to be disposed of in landfills, per SB 5376's legislative report.

The LCB reports further that it will be accepting comments on this rulemaking notice until July 6.
